Getting
onto the Network
Using a laptop on the
network:
For Ethernet or 802.11b wireless, the first time you open a webpage you'll be
directed to the QuickReg website to register your computer. Or, manually
register from another computer via http://netreg.net.cmu.edu.
Wireless uses the CMU network, no encryption.
Using dialup:
Our modem pool is 412-268-9000, limited to 8 primetime hours/week (8pm-1am, Sun-Thr), unlimited non-primtime
hours.
Configuring Email:
When configuring any email client you will be required to enter several
pieces of key information. Oftentimes an email client will ask you for this
information the first time that it is run. If this is not the case please
reference the "Help" section of the email client and follow the
instructions for setting-up a new email account. Below are the values you
will need to fill-into an email client in order to access your andrew email:
Protocol: IMAP.
Incoming Server:
cyrus.andrew.cmu.edu.
Outgoing Server:
smtp.andrew.cmu.edu (supports SSL).
LDAP server:
ldap.andrew.cmu.edu.
Optional server-side spam
filtering, quota management configured, forwarding, CMUname, vacation, and
Mulberry email client are at http://www.cmu.edu/myandrew.
