Getting onto the Network

Using a laptop on the network:
For Ethernet or 802.11b wireless, the first time you open a webpage you'll be directed to the QuickReg website to register your computer. Or, manually register from another computer via http://netreg.net.cmu.edu. Wireless uses the CMU network, no encryption.

Using dialup:
Our modem pool is 412-268-9000, limited to 8 primetime hours/week (
8pm-1am, Sun-Thr), unlimited non-primtime hours.

Configuring Email:
When configuring any email client you will be required to enter several pieces of key information. Oftentimes an email client will ask you for this information the first time that it is run. If this is not the case please reference the "Help" section of the email client and follow the instructions for setting-up a new email account. Below are the values you will need to fill-into an email client in order to access your andrew email:

Protocol: IMAP.

Incoming Server: cyrus.andrew.cmu.edu.

Outgoing Server: smtp.andrew.cmu.edu (supports SSL).

LDAP server: ldap.andrew.cmu.edu.

Optional server-side spam filtering, quota management configured, forwarding, CMUname, vacation, and Mulberry email client are at http://www.cmu.edu/myandrew. Detailed email client configuration at http://www.cmu.edu/computing/documentation.
